The Corporate Alliance on Malaria in Africa (CAMA) and partners are hosting a three-part dialogue series between March and May 2021 to mobilize the private sector, government and key stakeholders in the global health community towards continued commitment and increased investment in malaria elimination.
Despite the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, countries around the world have held the line by working to protect recent historic gains against malaria, thereby saving hundreds of thousands of lives.
Long-term success in reaching a malaria-free world within a generation is far from assured, however. A coordinated, intentional, and focused effort is urgently required. The private sector has a critical role to play through raising awareness within workforces and communities, as well as by investing in efforts to end malaria.
The event series will also feature a call to action for the CAMA partners’ End Malaria project, which will help to increase staff knowledge on prevention, treatment and management of malaria among CAMA members and support the development and implementation a comprehensive malaria response plan for CAMA members that operate in and near endemic communities.
CAMA, a GBCHealth-led initiative to drive partnerships for malaria control and elimination, is hosting this series of virtual dialogues to highlight opportunities and strategies for malaria control, engage stakeholders across multiple sectors to foster partnerships to prevent and treat malaria, and unlock investments to accelerate the fight against malaria.
Event 1 | March 30th, 2021
This Nigeria-focused, moderated roundtable discussion focused on the challenges and opportunities of IRS implementation in Nigeria and the business case for IRS, as well as on improving the impact of LLINs, and the integration of vector control tools and newly-available vector control tools, with the aim of advocating for the establishment of public–private partnerships to maximize impact on malaria vector control interventions in Nigeria.
Event 2:
In commemoration of World Malaria Day 2021, GBCHealth and the Corporate Alliance on Malaria in Africa (CAMA) hosted Combat Malaria in Africa: Lessons and Opportunities, a high-level virtual event which brought together the malaria community to discuss how to ensure progress in the fight to end malaria during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
The event also featured the launch of the CAMA partners’ End Malaria Project: a call to action to support greater collaboration and coordination to achieve malaria elimination. The initiative has been established to catalyze private sector capabilities and investment to address this challenge. With the vision to end malaria across the continent, the End Malaria Project’s initial focus is on Nigeria.
Event 3: Sustaining Progress in the Fight to End Malaria | May 20th, 2021
The final event in the series will bring a global perspective from thought-leaders, policy makers and potential investors to enhance political and private sector commitments and investments in the drive towards malaria elimination.
Potential speakers include high-level representation from private sector, government, multilateral organizations and civil society. By bringing together this diverse group of thought-leaders from different sectors, countries, and regions, the event will highlight opportunities to reduce the malaria burden in high burden countries and to foster public-private partnerships to scale up investment and accelerate progress to end malaria globally.
