Ian leads Strategy and Communications for GBCHealth. Since joining the team in 2015, Ian has led the design and roll out of several new initiatives including the Health Credit Exchange –providing guidance on business development, marketing and strategy. He also manages the organization’s communications, writing insight pieces, policy briefs and maintaining relationships with media.
Ian joined GBCHealth from LiveLeaf –a growing biotechnology company based in Silicon Valley. As LiveLeaf’s Director of Policy and Special Programs, Ian developed and launched a social enterprise to deliver safe and affordable products to improve child health and nutrition in the developing world. Through this work, Ian built and managed partnerships with 15-20 organizations including government agencies, academic research institutions, hospitals, private foundations, NGOs and other businesses.
Throughout his career, Ian has been exploring the role of the private sector in international development. He has worked as a strategic advisor, advocate, program officer and researcher at various organizations including Oxfam, Crisis Action, and Kiva. At Kiva, Ian worked closely with Senior Management to develop Kiva Labs, an initiative that develops and tests new financing and credit models for social enterprises and their clients. The program was recently awarded Google’s Global Impact Award.
Ian has a BA in Comparative Politics from Georgetown University and an MSc in Global Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
